At this juncture, when India Inc. is at the crossroads it would be interesting to look into the human resource landscape which is going through a very challenging phase. This is more so due to the organizations being face with the most daunting task of attracting retaining and motivating the right people who will be responsible for ensuring that the organizations are gradually evolving from being ‘Good to Great’.
However, the process of ‘Good to Great’ starts with level five leaders who start with people first and then share their vision and chalk our the strategy for the organization, they et the right people board the bus, seated at the right place and doing the right things at the right time and a above all ensuring that the wrong ones are offloaded.
And then starts the journey towards their much desired goals and mission. Now this is possible only when they have anticipated the king of talent they require and are able to get them on board right away. This is called manpower planning in today’s highly competitive environment. This is not an end, now starts the task of ensuring that the right people are rewarded for their contribution by chalking out a clearly laid out career plan for them, this would help in ensuring that they do not leave the organizations for better opportunities. Succession planning is the next logical step for developing the people for future responsibilities from within the organization by identifying their strengths and weaknesses. This is done by having a right performance management and planning system at place for continuously appraising their past performance and identifying their potential.
