NTA NEET 2020 – Everything You Need to Know

 

1. Introduction To NEET:

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) which is One of the most Reputed exams in India, Conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), is an objective based entrance examination held in India for students who want their career in Medical Fields.

For any Student who wish to Study Graduate Course ‘Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS)’or ‘Bachelor of Dental Surgery(BDS)’, it is compulsory to give NEET exam before to get admission in any Government or Private Medical College in India.

 

2. Important Dates:

The Important Dates Regarding NEET Exam 2020 Are Listed Below:

Now, many of you may be wondering that who can apply for this Examination. The Answer to this doubt is given below.

 

3. Eligibility:

The Eligibility Criteria set up by the NTA for NEET 2020 is explained below:

 

(i) Age:
Minimum Age of Candidate should be 17 years or he/she must complete that age on or before 31st
December of the year of his/her admission for 1st year in Medical College.
Candidate Should not be more than 25 Years old. However,Age relaxation of 5 years is provided for
Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category.
For Candidates of Unreserved Category (UR) : born on or before 31.12.2003.
For Candidates of SC/ST/OBC/PwD Category : born on or before 31.12.2003.

 

(ii) Minimum Qualification:

The candidate should have cleared 10+1 and 10+2 having Biology/Biotechnology,Physics,Chemistry and English as Core subjects from a well recognized Board.

 

 Minimum Marks in 10+1 and 10+2:
For General Candidates – 50%
For SC/ST/OBC – 40%
For Person with Disabilities(PWD)- 45%.

 

(iii) Qualifications And Qualifying Examination Codes:

CODE 01 : A candidate appearing in Class 12th examination,2020 whose result is awaited can apply for NTA NEET 2020 and will get admission in Medical Colleges only if he/she passes his/her Class 12th with required pass percentage.

 

CODE 02: The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (including practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at core level.

 

CODE 03: The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body with Physics,Chemistry, Biology /Bio-technology (including practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

 

CODE 04: The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics,Chemistry,Biology/Bio-technology & English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination(including practical test of these subjects and English as Compulosory .)

 

CODE 05: The first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognised University with Physics,
Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in these subjects provided He/she must have passed the Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology.

 

CODE 06: B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc.
Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany,
Zoology)/Bio-technology provided He/she must have passed the Physics, Chemistry and
Biology/Bio-technology.

 

CODE 07: Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology; which shall include practical test in these subjects) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

 

Note: Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open School or as private candidates shall not be eligible to appear for ‘National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test’. Also, study of Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permitted.

 

(iv) Nationality:

All ‘Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and Foreign Nationals ‘can apply for this exam. Foreign
nationals may confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental College/State.
Eligibility for 15% All India Quota seats:

 

a) Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India(OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.

 

b) Students from State of J & K are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats .If they claim eligibility, they must submit online Self Declaration.

 

c) Candidates from the State of J & K can appear in NEET (UG) for admission in Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.

 

(v) Maximum Attempts:

Fortunately,there is no limit in attempts for NEET exams. Therefore, you can re-appear for exam multiple times.

 

So, this was all about the Eligibility Criteria of NEET 2020 exam.

 

4. Exam Pattern:
All the major competitive exams are majorly MCQ based and so is NEET. The exam will follow NCERT based approach. For NEET 2020 exam,you must have a deep understanding of concepts taught in 10+1 and 10+2 for 3 subjects- Biology ,Physics and Chemistry.

 

Marks Distribution
The NEET exam will be of total 720 Marks with 180 questions.

Out of which, Physics and Chemistry section will comprise 45 questions each carrying total 360 Marks for both. Biology section is subdivided into 2 Sections- Zoology and Botany. Both will comprise 45 questions each carrying total marks 360.

Hence, Full Exam get divided into 4 Sections, each having 45 questions carrying 180 marks.

 

Marking Scheme
For each correct Answer, you will get 4 marks. For each incorrect Answer, -1 will be done (NEGATIVE MARKING) For blank or multiple answers of same question, you will get 0.

 

 

5. Admissions And Reservations:

An All India Merit List of the qualified candidates shall be prepared on the basis of All India Rank in the Merit List of the NEET (UG) – 2020. NTA will provde All India Rank and Candidates will be offered admissions on the basis of All India Rank as per merit lists.

 

The minimum percentile in NEET for eligibility for MBBS/BDS Courses:
For General Candidates: 50th percentile.
For SC/ST/OBC :40th percentile.
For PWD: 45th percentile.

 

Reservation Process:

a) Reservation of seats in Government Medical Colleges under 15% All India Quota:
For SC: 15% SEATS.
For ST: 7.5% SEATS.
For OBC: 27%SEATS.
For PWD : 5% SEATS.

 

b) Admission in State Medical Colleges/Universities/Institutions/private medical colleges for seats other than 15% All India Quota. 

Admission under State Quota Seats shall be subject to reservation policy and eligibility criteria prevailing  in the State/Union Territory.

 

c) Admission to Deemed Universities/Central Universities/Seats of ESIC and AFMC including BHU & AMU:
Admission to Deemed Universities/Central Universities/ESIC including DELHI UNIVERSITY (DU), BHU & AMU will be conducted by DGHS and reservation policy will be as per rules and regulations of the concerned University or Institution. Candidates should register on MCC website for admission to Deemed / Central University/ ESIC and AFMC
