Introduction

Thapar Institute of Engineering And Technology invites online applications for B.E. / BTech  / B.Tech Programmes. Admission to BE/BTech programs shall be conducted through two modes. Candidates seeking admission to BE/BTech programs shall be eligible for both the modes and need not to submit two separate application forms. Application form submitted by the candidate for admission in BE / BTech programme shall be considered for both the modes.

In order to avoid delay in admissions for the session 2022-23, TIET has decided to revise its criteria of admissions to BE / BTech 1st year. The admission to all the seats of BE / BTech programmes shall be made on the basis of merit of aggregate of three subjects namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject.

Admission Modes

a) Mode 1 – 10+2 Marks Merit

• The Candidate has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject*
• The Candidate has appeared in JEE (Main)-2022
• The Candidate has has passed 10+2 examination in 2020, 2021 or appearing in 2022.
• The Candidate has possesses a good moral character.
• The Candidate must be a citizen of India

The admission to all the seats of BE/BTech programmes shall be made on the basis of merit of aggregate of three subjects namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject

b) JEE Main 2022 Score

As and when JEE Main – 2022 final result is declared, admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling will be done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main – 2022 only. For admission on the basis of JEE Main – 2022, a candidate must fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

• The candidate has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject
• The candidate has appeared in JEE (Main)-2022
• The candidate has passed 10+2 examination in 2020, 2021 or appearing in 2022.
• The candidate has possesses a good moral character
• The Candidate must be a citizen of India

c) Direct Admission

The first five toppers of the recognized Boards of India in the examinations of 10+2 held in 2022, shall be given direct admission to the first year of UG program, with the condition that they must have appeared in JEE Main – 2022 but the entrance test score of such students shall not be considered for admission. Only toppers having first five positions among science stream (Non-Medical) at 10+2 of a respective board shall be considered. They shall be allocated branch of their choice. Such candidates shall have to furnish proof of being toppers from their respective boards. Tuition fee shall also be waived off for such students provided they maintain minimum CGPA of 8.50 in subsequent semesters.

Branch allocation in the online round(s) of counselling will be as per the merit, category wise seat availability and branch preference order filled in the application form. Candidates are advised to fill the branch preference order in the application form very carefully.

BE- Computer Science & Engineering (Derabassi Campus) will run at Derabassi Campus with first two years at Derabassi and remaining 2 years at Patiala campus.

Distribution of Seats

a) Punjab State Quota Seats

• 50% of the seats are reserved for candidates who have passed qualifying examination from School/College/Institute located in the state of Punjab.
• The candidates having Punjab Residency certificate but have passed 10+2 examination from any location outside Punjab shall also be considered under Punjab quota. Such candidates will have to submit an affidavit at the time of document checking that they have not availed state quota in any other State/UT. Candidates seeking admission under this category are required to submit a certificate as per format (Annexure-XV) along with the application form.

b) Outside Punjab State Quota Seats

50% of the seats are reserved for candidates who have passed qualifying examination from School/College/Institute located outside the state of Punjab.

Counselling

Candidate once offered admission in a particular round of online counselling, if failed to deposit the fee as per the prescribed timeline, he/she will not be considered for upgradation/admission in subsequent round(s) of online counselling. Only the candidates who will deposit the fee as per the prescribed timeline or the candidates who have not been offered admission till the latest round of counselling, will be considered for admission/upgradation in subsequent rounds of online counselling.
